I first joined BioReliance (now Invitrogen) back in 1990 in the role of Study Director. Prior to this appointment I worked within another contract testing company for a few years however unlike many scientists I came into work straight from school and was educated within the NHS teaching laboratories as a med lab science officer.

I have been fortunate to have worked in a number of roles within our company and have worn many different "operational hats". Whilst this has undoubtedly been a challenge I always enjoyed being part of a team creating this service sector within Scotland for our clients.

In 1998 and 2000 I was promoted to Manager then Director of the Viral Clearance group latterly looking after the teams in both our Stirling and Glasgow sites. In my current role as Head of Group Operations Invitrogen has given me the opportunity to do what I enjoy the most and that is working closely with the staff. With a larger team spanning a number of testing groups I am working with my group to enhance our service, and importantly to develop our people. Invitrogen have been incredibly supportive to me providing me with training opportunities as well as giving me encouragement and guidance in what is relatively still a new role for me. There are challenges every day in my job, I never stop learning and the truth is that I wouldn't have it any other way.
